2015 Riesling Ried Pfaffenberg, Stift Goettweig
Stift Goettweig is owned by the spectacular monastery that overlooks nearly all of the vineyards within the appellation. The Pfaffenberg comes from steep, southeast-facing terraces close to the Danube river and exposed to wind and temperature extremes. Approachable in the first 3 years after bottling, it can be kept for a minimum of 20 years. Best served between 12 and 14°C, it is the ideal partner for roast veal, roast chicken and freshwater fish but also complements Asian cuisine well.
"The 2015 Riesling Steiner Ried Pfaffenberg 1ÖTW is intense and concentrated on the aromatic nose with ripe peach and crushed stone aromas. Round and elegant with finessed acidity and some bitter tannins on the finish, this is a powerful Riesling with some grams of sweetness and firm, if not a bit drying, tannins. Very fruity and aromatic aftertaste with some bitter flavors. There's a bit too much of everything here. Drink 2017-2025." Wine Advocate, Aug 2017
