2014 Saumur Champigny Vieilles Vignes, Domaine Filliatreau

The wines of Domaine Filliatreau are listed in many of the top restuarants in Paris and around the world, indeed the estate was named by Matthew Jukes as one of his '100 Most Iconic Wine Estates' .   This is their benchmark Vieilles Vignes from 2014, an outstanding vintage for Cabernet Franc at the Domaine.

"Twenty years ago, Paul Filliatreau did a great deal to put Saumur-Champigny on many consumers’ radar screens, making cabernet francs with immediate appeal. Today, his son Frédrik has resolved to return back to the estate’s roots using biodynamic principles. The estate is perhaps best known for its La Grande Vignolle, but the Vieilles Vignes is usually slightly better. While I saw only the 2011 for this article, 15- and 20-year-old vintages are still available for those who would like to taste how Saumur-Champigny develops in bottle."  Joel Payne, Vinous.com, Dec 2014
